| Description: Thyme is a perennial dwarf-bush. It is easy to recognize on its scent! Are you out walking, and getting tired, rub fresh thyme leaves between your fingers and enjoy the scent. You will feel more energetic, but probably also more hungry! Thyme stimulates the blood circulation and is useful against low blood pressure. If you are reconvalescent after an illness, use Thyme to get your energy back and stimulate your appetite. Thyme is mainly a stimulant, but you can also use it for the opposite purpose; it ensures a good night's sleep if you put it under the pillow. Coughs, asthma and bronchitis can be treated with Thyme; for this, make an infusion of the herb to drink as tea. Or pour a few drops of Thyme oil in a bowl of hot water and inhale a few times a day. Culinary, use Thyme on all kinds of meat; if you ate a bit too much, it will aid the digestion. It also helps against worms and other infections in the stomach. Bacteria in the food or in the digestive system can be killed with Thyme - the constituent thymol is an antiseptic. Thyme is also good in toothpaste and mouth water; in as little amounts as 0,2% you get a nice clean and scented breath. Thyme also stimulates the production of white blood cells. The essential oil of Thyme is very strong, do not use it undiluted on the skin as this can cause irritations. Magically Thyme signifies purity, courage and elegance; "to smell like Thyme" they called in Greece people who had an elegant style. Thyme is easy to grow in the garden, it doesn't require much. There are many varieties, such as lemon thyme, compact varieties, large-flowered varieties etc. Thyme can also be used in incense blends. It has a warm, herbal, slightly medicinal scent. For incense, mix thyme with borneol camphor, coriander, dragon's blood, lavender, marjoram, mastic, pine, rosemary, sage. The essential oil blends well with: Bergamot, lemon, rosmary, melissa, lavender, marjoram, Peru balm, pine. As an incense, Thyme blends well with: Borneol camphor, coriander, dragon's blood, lavender, marjoram, mastic, pine, rosemary, sage |
