| Description: This little herb grows in abundance in my garden, and I've grown fond of it, admiring its strength (it grows almost everywhere, and is very vigorous) as well as its fragility - it's easily uprooted. These characteristics makes it an excellent ground cover. It's a pretty little thing as well. A friend of mine likes to make tea of it - the smell of it is fresh, almost minty. Ground Ivy has been used medicinally for bronchitis and catarrh, as well as for haemorrhoids. It can also be used externally to soothe inflammation. The astringent and anti-inflammatory properties makes it also a useful herb for diarrhea. It contains quite a lot of vitamin C, so add it to salads in the spring for extra energy and vitality. And for all you paranoid mages and witches, here is a little bit of Ground Ivy magic: Place the herb around the base of a yellow candle and burn the candle on a Tuesday. If someone is working negative magic against you, you will know, when burning the candle, who it is. (Source: Cunningham) |
